A woman was arrested this Friday afternoon (2) on charges of dog abuse in Joinville, north of Santa Catarina. The guardian would leave the dog for treatment at the veterinary clinic, but never returned to pick it up, setting up a rejection of the animal.
According to the Department of Internal Affairs (Criminal Investigation Department) of the Civil Police, a puppy of about seven months old was left in a veterinary clinic almost a month ago with a spinal injury and severe pain, in addition to being infected with ticks.
As it turned out during the investigation, the caregivers claimed that other dogs could have attacked the puppy. However, the veterinarians who assisted the animal claim that the lesion is not compatible with the version presented.
The clinic also made several contacts with the owners, who stopped communicating with the facility, abandoning the animal on the spot.
Giving up dogs and cats is a crime
Leaving unattended is a form of abuse, and adopting any animal is an obligation that requires awareness and responsibility, according to DIC. Also, according to the civil police, the punishment for cruelty to dogs and cats is from 2 to 5 years in prison.
