A frozen raccoon at a temperature of minus 12 degrees was saved by a railroad worker. The animal was glued to the rail.
Neil Mullis, the worker who rescued the raccoon, was taken aback by the fact that the raccoon didn’t move. Approaching, he realized that the animal had been glued with the hair of the testicle to the cold iron.
“I splashed warm water on his back while my colleague put a shovel under him, trying to free him,” said a resident of Cochrane (Georgia, USA), according to the North American newspaper “Daily Mail”. “After about five minutes of slow work to free him, he was free.”
The incident occurred on December 19, but became public only now.
Despite the rescue, the raccoon left a “piece” behind him. Strands of hair from her genitals were left attached to the railing after the tiny creature’s agonizing ordeal.
“Operation well done,” said the railroad worker. “He ran into the forest without looking back,” he concluded.
Male raccoons are usually solitary and burrowers, preferring to avoid large open spaces. However, this behavior is hindered by deforestation, which pushes them into urban areas in search of safety and food.
Although they prefer temperate climates, raccoons have a dense undercoat to protect them from the cold, but this proves to be a complicating factor when crossing icy trails.
