Margai, in search of food, ended up in a chicken coop in Pomerode, in the valley of Itajai. But the animal’s plan failed because this Thursday morning it was trapped inside space and needed to be rescued (2).
The owner of the residence, located in Pomerode Fundos, told firefighters that he went to feed his chickens around 9:30 am this Thursday (2) when he saw a margay in the chicken coop.
He may have entered at night looking for food and was imprisoned until the morning of the next day. The owner also said that, having driven into a corner, the animal eventually killed all the chickens that were in the chicken coop.
The fire department rescued the animal and released it in an isolated location away from the countryside or urban areas.
Wild cats are considered endangered
According to Furb course professor of veterinary medicine Julio César de Souza Jr., wild cats such as the margay, ocelot and wild cat are considered endangered.
However, since Santa Catarina still has extensive areas of natural forest, these animals usually come to this region to live. Therefore every kind of caution is necessary.
If you encounter wild animals like this, call the fire department to help and safely rescue the animal.
