Moving to a rented apartment in the Chinese capital Beijing, the couple drank water directed into the bathroom for six months and developed health problems. The man, identified by Chinese media as Tang, suffered hair loss and his partner had chest pain and a cough.
They noticed something was wrong when, after living there for a semester, they didn’t pay their water bill. Even with all the taps open, the water meter in the apartment seemed intact.
When they hired a plumber, they discovered that the extra pipe was distributing all the water intended for the bathroom, without any treatment to make it potable, throughout the house.
They used this resource for all daily activities such as cooking, bathing and even drinking.
The case of a couple who drank water intended for the toilet went to court
Because they had been drinking something that was undrinkable for six months, the duo decided to sue the real estate company responsible for the property.
According to R7, the company, whose name was not disclosed by Chinese media, claimed that the key allows you to secure a house directly from a well.
In court, Tan and his partner said they were never informed that there was another source of water in the house and that they were not provided with clean water to drink. The case is still pending in the country’s courts.
