Imagine that you found mouse hair or cockroach paws in canned food? Whatever the foreign body, if it is within the maximum limit allowed by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), it is released.

According to Anvisa, in every 100 g of chocolate, a fragment of rodent hair can be found, and in the case of insect pieces, 60 fragments are allowed in 25 g of coffee.
Dr. Francisco Rabello explains that the law allows the use of some animal remains. This tolerance is defined by RDC 14 (Resolution of the Collegiate Council), a 2014 set of laws that regulates how much “dirt” is allowed in food so that it does not harm the health of the consumer.
Not only rat hair is acceptable, but also pieces of flies, cockroaches, spiders, ants, sand, human hair, cobwebs, and even animal excrement.
Why are pets allowed?
According to Anvisa, production without fragments of insects and other animals is impossible. This is because insects and animals inhabit crops and are “transported” at harvest time.

In addition, animals may come into contact with food during transport and storage, prior to industrial processing.
According to the responsible authorities, there is no risk of poisoning or transmission of the disease. After all, food is exposed to high temperatures and other procedures that destroy most microorganisms.
