The municipality of Joinville, north of Santa Catarina, confirmed two more deaths from dengue on Tuesday (30). Since the beginning of this year, 18 deaths from the disease have been recorded in the city.
According to the Department of Health, the 17th victim was an 82-year-old woman with multiple comorbidities who lives in the Saguaçu area. She died in a private hospital on 12 May.
The 18th death was in a 41-year-old woman, who also had comorbidities, from the Costa e Silva region, who died in a public hospital on 19 May.
This year, 11,200 cases of dengue have been confirmed in Joinville. The Aedes aegypti Rapid Survey (LIRAa) found that most dengue outbreaks occur in homes.
Measures to prevent dengue
The most effective way to stop Aedes aegypti mosquitoes from breeding is to avoid standing water in areas such as tires, bottles and other containers. Simple measures to eliminate fires in homes help to ensure the safety of the entire location.
The City of Joinville, with the help of its environmental watchdog, is conducting ongoing dengue control efforts focused on areas with a high number of confirmed cases. At the moment, the largest number of cases have been reported in the districts of Paranaguamirim, Comas and Jardim Paraiso.
Dengue outbreaks can be reported through the Joinville Fácil app as well as through the ombudsman service channels.
