The Joan de Gusmão Children’s Hospital received a new CT scanner for the department this Thursday (30). According to information compiled by NDTV reporter Paulo Müller, the device used in the hospital was released in 2006 and even led to an investigation by the MPSC (State Ministry of Santa Catarina) due to its unreliable condition.
According to the SES/SC (Santa Catarina Health Department), the new device will make the service more flexible. The tomograph is used for diagnostic imaging, obtaining detailed images of a wide variety of tissues of the human body.
The tomograph cost the state treasury 3.03 million reais and should start working in the next 15 days.
In 2022 alone, the CT scanner used at the Children’s Hospital broke down three times. The equipment, installed in the hospital since 2006, is necessary for elective neurological surgeries, which may require urgent computed tomography.
Children with medical emergencies unable to use the equipment were even taken to Governador Celso Ramos Hospital for examination and then returned to HIJG.
