We must recognize that we are a different generation. We had the opportunity to choose who to marry, where to live and what career to choose. In fact, the ability to make all these choices is the result of the tireless struggle of our ancestors, and the realization of this is the privilege of our generation.
But what to do when the conscience recognizes such privileges and also understands that this does not fill the void that we feel? Starting a career at 18 and possibly continuing for the next 30 years didn’t make us happier?
Perhaps it is at this moment that entrepreneurial vision, acquired through life experience (which is not temporary experience), opens up new opportunities for us.
As I commented on the aDiversa podcast where guests had incredible career transitions, entrepreneurship saved me! After five long years of investing the resources that I had (and the resources that I didn’t have either), whether financial, emotional or intellectual, I received a long-awaited law degree.
Contrary to what I imagined, when I arrived in the job market, I realized that this incredible field with thousands of opportunities had nothing to do with its goals and values. After the terrible emotional crises that accompanied me for years, and the unromanticized “desire to succeed” already mentioned in the previous column, I decided to put my legal career on hold in order to invest in what really made sense.
It seems hypocritical to forgo the privilege in a country with so many hardships to allow ourselves to invest in what truly makes us happy. But that’s when entrepreneurship presented itself as a great career opportunity. This is my story, but it is also the story of many other women.
Far from self-promotion, I am writing all this to say that giving up your degree, marriage or career in the name of real happiness is also okay! Such cases are no more common, because the lack of courage and thinking the entrepreneur paralyzes most people.
In addition, going against social expectations, facing the fear of disappointing the people we love, or taking a big step forward in order to fulfill our true desires requires courage, perseverance, determination, leadership, and continuous development.
Do you understand what entrepreneurial qualities are? So, no matter what your next step is or where your career takes you, build on the skills above. Because perhaps entrepreneurship will save your life too, and you will discover thousands of new opportunities. After all, saving happiness is always worth it!
