There is no deadline in Santa Catarina for the monkeypox vaccine. However, there are already 302 confirmed cases in the state. According to Dive/SC (Santa Catarina Epidemiological Surveillance Authority), the Department of Health responsible for sending the immunizers has not given a deadline for delivery.

Rogerio Ribeiro, governor of the Santa Catarina Ministry of Health, said that “The secretariat in charge of this requirement is assessing state by state and will soon release the distribution protocol.”

The first imported batch of monkeypox vaccines has been in Brazil for six days. According to the Ministry of Health, a shipment of 9,800 doses landed last Tuesday (4) at Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paulo.

Some 50,000 doses have already been procured through the PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) Revolving Fund. Delivery of the next batches is expected by the end of 2022.

The folder states that the immunizers will be used for research in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

“It is important to emphasize that vaccines are safe and currently used against smallpox or smallpox. Therefore, the study aims to collect data on the efficacy, immunogenicity and safety of the monkeypox vaccine and thus guide policymakers’ decisions,” the Ministry of Health said.

The study will be coordinated by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), supported by WHO and financed by the Ministry. The study was discussed by the Ministry along with PAHO, researchers and experts in the field.

In addition to the confirmed cases, there are 227 other cases under investigation in Santa Catarina. They are, for example, waiting for test results to confirm monkeypox.

In Brazil, there are 8,340 confirmed cases of the disease, according to the bulletin of Friday (7) of the Ministry of Health. The state with the most infections is São Paulo with 3,843 people.
