Journalist Diana Garbin, mother of little Lua, who is 1 year and 7 months old, and wife of presenter Thiago Leifert, returned to social networks and commented on the treatment of a girl diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer.

Diana was off the grid and said she was focusing her efforts on treating her daughter. “I’ve been missed here from Instagram because every once in a while I decide to step back a bit and focus all my energy on healing Luna.”
She took the opportunity to upgrade Lua’s health status. “Some of you asked how you are, everything is fine, we are still strong.”
Diana even used Instagram to ask people to share information about retinoblastoma. “It is very important that we do not forget about this disease, which can be so dangerous for our tiny children. Retinoblastoma can lead to blindness in a child, it can lead to death, it is a very serious disease,” he asked.

Find out what is retinoblastoma
Retinoblastoma usually appears in very young children, as in the case of Thiago Leifert’s daughter. Patients are usually between eight months and three years old, but it can occur as early as five years of age. Early diagnosis is essential to achieve a good outcome.
Ophthalmic pediatrician Marcela Barreira explains: “This is a tumor that has a genetic origin, that is, caused by a mutation. “It was one of the first tumors in which this genetic basis was found. This mutation leads to erratic growth of retinal cells.”
According to Marcel, the retina is the part of the eye that receives visual information from the outside and sends it to the optic nerve, which in turn transmits the information to the brain. Therefore, the organ is extremely important.
The main symptoms are perceived by the eyes. Healthy reflections in blood cells are often red, as in flash photography. “When this reflex changes color to shades of white or yellowish, it is a warning sign and a pediatric ophthalmologist should be contacted immediately.”
Care
The main treatment for retinoblastoma is chemotherapy. “It can be taken orally, as well as through a catheter that injects the drug directly into the eye, which is more suitable for a good result,” says a pediatric ophthalmologist.
In some cases, surgical removal of the tumor, including removal of the eyeball, is necessary. This is the last alternative and depends on the degree of retinoblastoma involvement. “Early diagnosis is the main means of treatment without spreading the tumor to other regions.”
