One Piece: Producer Reveals What Impressed the Original Manga Creator in the Netflix Series

The producer remembered some details from One Piece that surprised Oda!

The live-action One Piece was a huge success and was renewed for a second season. The love and knowledge of the original work is evident in every behind-the-scenes video and interview with those involved in the production. According to the executive producer, this interest even surprised Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. Steve Maeda.

Maeda I recently left a comment about the battle of Zoro against Mister 7, which takes place in the first episode of the series and does not appear in the manga. This was only mentioned during the SBS Q&A session, which Oda himself did not remember:

“I suggested a lot of ideas to Oda during our first meeting. One of them was to introduce Zoro in a fight scene to show what he could do in front of Shell Town. In the old SBS, Oda mentioned that the swordsman was previously recruited into Baroque Works by Mr. 7 and killed him in battle. This was exactly what I was looking for: something canon that was never shown in the manga. Oda then turned to one of his editors and asked, “Did I really say that?”

Maede also says that a day after this conversation Oh yeah gave it to him complete and unpublished drawing of Mr.7:

“The next day he gave me a drawing. This was the only time Mr.7 was fully designed by Oda. He said he was impressed by my knowledge of his world and liked the idea. I felt like I was holding the Holy Grail. This was the first of many incredible conversations and interactions I had with him. Someone I am honored to call a friend and colleague.”

Design brings good look similar to what is seen in the series, showing that the team adopted Oda’s design in every detail. First live-action season One piece represents the beginning of the adventures of Luffy and his friends, and in the next chapter we can see the arrival of the Straw Hats in Grand Line. There they will find new enemies, as well as allies, as in the case of Choppermedical deer, loved by those who love their craft.
