One Piece: Series creator explains why Garp appeared in season 1
The character appears later in the manga.
Live Action Series one piece appeared on Netflix, and the public finally had the opportunity to evaluate the result of this project. Despite the strong similarity to the source material, some changes were made to adapt the story to this new format, which is necessary given changes in the media. And that’s one of the reasons why harp According to the showrunner, appears in the first season of the series Stephen Maeda.
He explained that this decision was also influenced by the history of such an advanced manga, as he realized that some elements could have been introduced much earlier than in the manga. Maeda claims that this makes the journey even more interesting, illustrating the situation with the appearance harp (Vincent Regan) who, despite his importance, appears much later in the manga.
“Both the manga and the series tell stories, but they do so in very different ways and with different structures. So we had to discuss moving forward, backtracking, and adding elements that are in the manga but only appear in very advanced chapters.” he said in an interview with the publication collider. “For example, Fleet, you know the Garp that is chasing Luffy, Koby and Helmeppo, and this story is not in the first 100 chapters of the manga, it appears somewhere in the 300th chapter or something like that. And I thought that I really want to add risk and dangerous antagonists, and it’s not just pirates that they will face as antagonists. So I really wanted to include this idea that the Navy is after them, but why? It’s like: what is the importance of this child?
Maeda also noted that some “easter eggs” were added to indicate future events. “Sometimes we turned them on because we thought it would be cool, sometimes we were like, ‘Oh no, no, let’s make the Baroque Works the antagonists'” told colliderconcluding: “Let’s take care of that so we can create opportunities for direction later. [E para o público pensar] Oh, of course they included it in the first season.” So yes, they were made very carefully, sometimes with future episodes in mind, sometimes just like easter eggs.”
