In Nintendo’s own statement, the change was announced
Charles Martinet, the original voice of Mario over thirty years ago, will stop voicing the character for Nintendo, according to a statement from the company itself. The voice actor will have a new role as a spokesman for the franchise, but his voice will no longer feature in Ames’ next title. Super Mario Bros. be surprised.
Nintendo’s statement posted on its official social media profile X (formerly Twitter) says:
Charles Martinet originally voiced Mario in Nintendo games up until Super Mario 64. Charles will now transition into a brand new role as Ambassador Mario. With this transition, he will no longer record character voices for our games, but will continue to travel the world to share Mario’s joy and connect with you all!
It’s been an honor to work with Charles and help bring Mario to life for so many years, and we want to thank him and pay tribute to him. Please stay tuned for a special video message from Shigeru Miyamoto and Charles himself that we will release in the future.”
In a statement to DiversityNintendo confirmed that Martinet was not involved with Super Mario Bros. Be surprisedwhich premieres on October 20. The company has reaffirmed its commitment to honoring the voice actor’s contributions and legacy and is excited for what he will do as an ambassador for Mario.
Martinet confirmed presence at this year’s show brazilian game show, an event in which he will participate in the opening ceremony, in addition to the jury and panels of the cosplay competition on October 11 and 12. He will also attend Meet & Greet meetings. Besides him, the event will also feature Samantha Kelly and Kenny James, the voices of Peach and Bowser.
