Gravity Falls: Creator Reveals Disney’s Ridiculous Concerns to Save ‘Family’ Show
Be careful what you do in front of one of the Disney employees!
controversy around Disney and community LGBTQIA+ are not new. Since censoring that movies out Marvel suffered in the East Asian country until the company was boycotted over the bill “Don’t Say Gay” and a recent lesbian kiss in light yearwhich has been almost censored, it’s hard not to have a day when something new comes across a company. But the truth is that this movement of censorship and silence is nothing new. Alex Hirschcreator gravity fallsreleased this Thursday16) some conversations he had for Email address with members of Disney and their concern for the preservation of the program “habitual”.
With one a thread in your twitterHirsch shared several videos with comments and prints emails you exchanged with the company during development gravity falls. It’s worth remembering that animation was one of Disney’s successes, as well as Owl House, but this did not prevent the boycott of both productions. Were with, as Hirsch points out, “stupid worries” in relation to specific dialogues, scripts and scenes or in the face of LGBTQIA+ representation.

Last pleasure. Have you ever wondered about the fights I had with the censors in Gravity Falls? I probably shouldn’t share this, here are some REAL NOTES from DISNEY S&P and my REAL ANSWERS. You are not prepared #10YearsOfGravityFalls pic.twitter.com/EioKU8gIJJ

Among some curious notes, Disney staff noted that the term “hu-ha” should be excluded from the script, as it is supposedly slang “vagina”. Another asks Alex to look at the character’s shirt print because what it says is “Chub Pub”according to them, had a sexual connotation.
To make it even clearer that these changes didn’t make sense, Alex posted what one of the scenes looked like after being censored. In just two seconds, we see that even if it hadn’t been changed, there would be no room for a second interpretation.

“Please review the phrase ‘Once upon a time there was a man from Kentucky’, we are concerned that unsafe rhymes may come out of it”says the video referring to the end of the word “Kentucky”, “Jonah”what can rhyme with a swear word “Fuck”. Alex, to explain his choice, still remembers that the rhyme that uses the word “fuck” “The Man from Nantucket”.
Another highlight is the scene in which Mabel went to the past and noticed that he wanted to put two dodo, extinct birds, to stay together and thus not become extinct in the future. According to associates, the scene “too mature for the public”.
Not to mention the relationship between the police. Blubs as well as Durland. It’s clear at the end of the animation that the two were a couple, but Disney’s concern showed up much earlier, with a simple affection scene:
“Please watch the scene where Blubs hugs Durland. As we said, your affective relationship should be in a comical tone, not a flirtatious one.”— stated in the request for verification.
Alex also commented that he probably shouldn’t reveal such information. However, with the recent controversy surrounding the cancellation of House of the Owl and the 10th anniversary of Gravity Falls, action by the creator has become necessary.
Gravity Falls marked television not only for its adorable characters, but also for its ability to balance children’s storytelling with an elaborate plot that managed to captivate all age groups.
In it we follow Mabel as well as ladletwo brothers who are going to spend the summer with “Uncle Stan”, an old man who owns a shop of mystical items. Little do they know that the city they find themselves in is home to several supernatural beings.
