On the occasion of 40 years since the birth of your social project, La Fageda has focused on sharing the anniversary with all the people who have contributed to its growth over these decades.

With almost 500 participants, La Fageda continues to grow with new social and business initiatives.. As part of this commemorative program, the entire La Fageda community — users, workers and families of both groups — celebrated a day of fun and celebration on October 1st along with a heartfelt tribute to their two founders: psychologist Christopher Columbus and Carme Jorda.

The celebration section also had a more institutional dimension with the October 7 visit of the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Father Aragonés, who described La Fageda in front of those present as “a case of collective, business success, social and national success”. ”, a very important task, which “manages to offer a working project that is responsible and feels like the owner of its own life.”

Its origin

In 1982, a psychologist named Christopher Columbus realized the idea of ​​helping the most vulnerable groups, thus giving birth to La Fageda, a social project that arose with the aim of improving the quality of life and promoting the integration of people in vulnerable situations. in the Garrocha (Girona) region through “real and worthy” work.

“Starting with a group of just 14 people with mental illness in a small monastery building in Olot, donated by the city council, Colón began this great challenge with the belief that work is a therapeutic tool and an essential element of life. A philosophy that has taken root over time in a large social project that currently serves half a thousand people, through the various services of its foundation and its business activities, and which has led to the expansion of its mission to many other groups, such as young people who are at risk of social exclusion ‘, they recall.
