In Joinville, north of Santa Catarina, a man was preemptively arrested after he failed to comply with protective measures and tried to set fire to the victim’s house. The arrest was made last Friday (14), but on Tuesday (18) the case was transferred to the civilian police.
According to the DPCAMI (Delegation for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly), the man had a measure of protection in favor of his 46-year-old niece, granted after the victim was threatened. As a result, he was prohibited by law from approaching the victim or her family, and could not communicate with her.
However, the man would not have obeyed the decision, having visited his niece’s house twice. In one instance, he even took a gallon of fuel when he doused a house with gasoline and tried to set the property on fire. The attempt simply failed because a neighbor interfered with it.
Due to non-compliance with the measure, the man was arrested in a preventive manner. According to the DPCAMI, he already has a criminal record for the crimes of threat and non-compliance with protective measures committed against the same victim.
Request for Protective Measures
According to DCAMI, victims who wish to request protective measures against their aggressors can apply through the virtual police station on the Civilian Police website. In the first half of July 2023 alone, the DCAMI of Joinville has already requested more than 54 safeguards in a face-to-face model.
