A shooting at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in the center of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, injured 25 people and killed 15. The attack took place this Thursday (21). The accused is a 24-year-old art student.
The shooter lived in a village 21 kilometers away. According to emergency services, he invaded the university, shot and killed 15 people, and injured 25 others, 9 of them seriously.
According to Czech police, the suspect was killed. Agents believe the motive was other mass killings abroad. The site was closed and residents were advised to stay home.
Police also said the suspect’s father was found dead this morning.
In videos circulating online, people can be seen running in fear of gunfire and hiding around the college grounds.
One student told Czech Television that college library staff gathered about 50 students in a dead-end room while they waited for police action.
Mayor regrets attack in Czech Republic
Interior Minister Vit Rakusan said “the presence of any other shooter has not been confirmed.” Still not knowing the motives for the massacre, the Czech government rules out the possibility of “international terrorism.”
“There is no indication that this crime has any connection with international terrorism,” the minister said.
The mayor of Prague, Bohuslav Svoboda, called the incident “a tragedy of unprecedented proportions” and was left speechless. The representative of Prague also expressed condolences to the families of the victims on his social networks.
