This Thursday (December 21), the target of the operation was a property in the interior of Coronel Freitas. The sanitary inspection took place on the line of Zenaide Bertaso.
The action was carried out by the Santa Catarina Civil Police through the Operational Support Center for the Combating of Crimes Against Agribusiness (CAOAGRO/PCSC) together with civil police officers from Operation Horus and the Santa Catarina Integrated Agricultural Development Company (Cidasc).
The goal of the activity is to ensure the safety of consumers and the supply of safe products of animal origin.
Operation in a secret location
According to the Civil Police, the initial complaint concerned secret slaughter of livestock, in which the meat was resold at commercial establishments in the region. However, the operation uncovered large quantities of animal skin and entrails stored in barrels in very poor hygienic conditions, surrounded by flies and domestic animals, and with a strong odor and dirt.
There was also a refrigerator full of carcasses, all of which did not meet sanitary and environmental standards.
According to the Civil Police, preliminary investigations revealed that there is no slaughterhouse at the site, but a clandestine warehouse for processing animal by-products with the waste being resold to feed mills in other states, usually at night. It processes carcasses from across the region, but the facility does not have an environmental license, health inspection records or other relevant authorities.
Therefore, the establishment was closed, and the owner was administratively notified for violating sanitary standards.
In addition, meat products were destroyed and thrown away, and a criminal case will be opened to investigate possible environmental crimes.
The authorities responsible for the action emphasize that the combined efforts of the Civil Police and Cidasc are aimed at enhancing agricultural protection activities in the state, as well as preventing property crimes against agribusinesses.
