The first red-handed arrest for drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms occurred on March 29 of this year in the city of Timbo. More than 6 kg of drugs were seized then, including marijuana, crack, cocaine and ecstasy. In another case, which occurred in Gaspar on April 5 of the same year, 70 kilograms of drugs were found, including marijuana, cocaine and crack. Based on this, the Civil Police established that they were the same criminal group.
The investigation also revealed that the criminal group was led by brothers from Blumenau. To launder drug money, they opened an earthmoving equipment rental company in the name of one of their wives.
According to the Civil Police, it is still impossible to assess the scale of money laundering. The extensive police investigation report calls for preventive arrest, search and seizure, as well as the confiscation and freezing of assets, rights and valuables.
Of the seven preventive arrests, five have already been carried out. One of the brothers was arrested this Wednesday, while the other remains at large. The police investigation must be completed within 30 days. The prisoners were taken to Blumenau Regional Prison.
