Two people were arrested this Monday (18) during an operation against illegal hunting in São Bento do Sul, Planalto Norte and Corupe in the north of Santa Catarina. The men were caught red-handed during a police action for crimes related to illegal possession of firearms and illegal hunting.
According to the PMA (Military Environmental Police), six search and arrest warrants were carried out in the municipalities affected by the operation. The goal was to dismantle a group that was practicing illegal hunting in the Rio Vermelho-Humboldt Conservation Area.
As a result of the action carried out jointly by the PMV and the Civil Police, nine shotguns of various calibers, including two air rifles, were seized. In addition, agents collected approximately 400 pieces of ammunition and other hunting tools.
The operation was launched following reconnaissance activities by the WWII, which resulted in a report being sent to the ministry and the civilian police launching an investigation.
For Major Rui, commander of the PMA, and civilian police delegate Valdir Xavier, the integration of security forces is important to combat illegal hunting and preserve the environment.
