A four-year-old boy was found dead this Monday afternoon (18 years old) after being forgotten in a school van in the Mooca area, in the eastern zone of São Paulo. The child was found already dead under the bench. Information taken from the R7 portal
According to the military police, when the driver of the van arrived at the Bras Mooka I Social Assistance Center to pick up the child, an employee of the institution informed her that she had not attended classes. The incident took place on the streets of Rua Barra do Turvo and Rua Soussui.
Returning to the car, the driver found an unconscious child under the seat. When Samu and fire engines arrived on the scene, the child was already showing signs of rigor, indicating that death had occurred several hours earlier.
At 4:11 p.m., military police were called to respond to the scene. The case is to be investigated by the 8th Police Precinct.
The death occurred on a hot Monday afternoon in May. According to Climatempo, at 14:00 thermometers recorded 32°C in the city of Sao Paulo. Some outdoor thermometers recorded 35°C in the center of the capital Sao Paulo.
The school van is private and the matter will be investigated, the mayor’s office said.
After the incident, the city of Sao Paulo expressed regret about this. The agency notes that it is monitoring the case and the Learning Support and Monitoring Center, which includes psychologists and educational psychologists, has been called in to assist the family.
According to the DTP (Department of Public Transport), the school van in question provides private transport and is not associated with the TEG (Free School Transport) service.
The DTP will initiate administrative proceedings to revoke the vehicle’s Community School Driver Registration and School Van License.
According to the mayor’s office, the rental of a private school van occurs between the driver and the person responsible for the child, without the mediation of the municipality.
The car is a 2015 model, registered with the private school transport system and has a good reputation. The school van was inspected in March 2023 and received approval. The school transport license is valid until February 8, 2024. Driving documents are in order.

This is the second such case in a month. A two-year-old boy also died on November 14 after being left in a school van. The incident occurred in the Vila Maria area in northern Sao Paulo.
In the afternoon, the driver found the child in the car and took him dead to the Verreador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital in Novo Mundo Park. It was a very hot afternoon that day, with thermometers averaging 37.3°C.
