The Civil Police of Sao Paulo confirmed late Monday morning (18) that Marcelinho Carioca, 51, had been kidnapped. The former player has debts and his passport has already been confiscated.
In April this year, his assets were frozen due to a debt to the Cirio Libanes hospital. The amount owed to the hospital exceeds 143,000 reais and is intended to provide medical care to the mother of former striker Sueli Pereira da Silva.
Marcelinho Carioca was kidnapped after a performance
The case took on serious consequences after the former player failed to return from singer Tiaguinho’s concert on Sunday at the Neo Química Arena, east of Sao Paulo. The athlete’s car was located in the village of Itaquaquecetuba, Mogi das Cruzes, in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo.
The DAS (Deputy Anti-Kidnapping Station) was called in to investigate the case. Civil police arrested two suspects near the place where Marcelinho Carioca’s car was found. Authorities have not released the identities of the two men.
In a statement, the SSP SP (Sao Paulo Public Security Secretariat) confirmed that the car was abandoned in Itaquaquecetuba this Monday. “The police are registering a missing person report and the location of the vehicle at the Mogi das Cruzes local police station,” the note reads.
The SSP also said that the Automated Fingerprint Identification System was activated to investigate the circumstances and identify those involved.
