On Tuesday afternoon (12), a large fire caused damage and injured one person in José Buite, in Alto Vale do Itajaí. Around 12 p.m., the BVPG (President Getulio Volunteer Firefighters) were called to extinguish a fire in the town of Caminho Cazador.
Two teams were mobilized with the support of the city hall’s water carrier and another combat unit from the CBVI (Ibirama Volunteer Fire Department).
When crews arrived on scene, the fire was in the final stages of burning but was still spreading.
According to the BVPG, two smokehouses weighing a total of about 140 arrobas were consumed, as well as agricultural implements, a shelter and a ranch attached to the main structure. The estimated damage is R$300,000.
One person was injured in a greenhouse fire
According to firefighters, one person was injured while trying to put out the fire before firefighters arrived. She was rescued by members of the public and taken to hospital.
Despite extensive damage, the teams managed to save two greenhouses, one containing 70 arrobees of tobacco, a ranch and a house, amounting to approximately R$900,000 in assets saved.
In total, seven BVPG and KBVI fighters spent about 18 thousand liters of water to extinguish the fire and eliminate the consequences; the work took 2 hours. The cause of the fire has not been reported.
