A 26-year-old Catalan died in Ukraine while fighting with a group of 12 Spanish volunteers who had joined the Ukrainian Army’s Foreign Legion, it is reported. ABC and sources in the Foreign Office confirmed to Europa Press.

According to diplomatic sources, the family of the deceased has already been informed and the body will be repatriated. The deceased’s name was Pau, and he was part of this group that moved to Ukraine in May 2022 to support the Ukrainian army in the fight against Russian troops.

Pau went to the border between Poland and Ukraine, and from there he and other mercenaries went to a military training camp near Lvov to volunteer with 11 other Spaniards to fight for the Ukrainian cause.

In June 2022, another Spanish volunteer fighter from Mallorca, who came to Ukraine to participate in the war, died.

Also on September 10, Emma Igual, director of the public organization Road to Help, died when the car she was riding in was hit by a Russian shell near Chasovoy Yar in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
