A businessman who killed a man who tried to rob his Estreito marina will not be charged in the death. TO no date+Civilian police said they are treating the case as self-defense.
The episode occurred on December 2, when three people tried to rob the Marina Sea Escape in Florianopolis. According to the PMSC (Military Police of Santa Catarina), after a shootout between the businessman and the suspects, two were injured, one of them died.
According to homicide delegate Konio Mattos, the businessman will not be investigated for his attacker’s death and was not preventively arrested and therefore not subject to a custody hearing.
The delegate stated that he acted in self-defense and the actions of the PMSC were taken into account.
The businessman was in Marina during the robbery
It all started when a 26-year-old woman appeared at the pier, allegedly interested in renting a jet ski. As soon as the owner of the house, located in the Estreito area, opened the gate to greet her, he was surprised by two armed criminals, civilian police said.
According to Walter Loyola, a civilian police delegate who investigated the case, it was at that moment that the victim crashed into a motorhome installed on the premises of the establishment. The owner’s father immediately exited the motorhome and, armed, shot and killed the two suspects.
One of the robbers died on the spot. The second, a 22-year-old man, was hospitalized at the Sao Jose Regional Hospital. He and his wife were detained. The shooter had a weapon, Loyola said.
The suspect, who was hospitalized, has a police record of recent robberies as well as three red-handed arrests. The girl recorded her first statement to the police. Civilian police did not provide details about who died.
