The 35-year-old gardener responsible for the death of 66-year-old Janete Casagrande Favaro, who was found dead in a shed by her family late on Thursday (7), was arrested red-handed early on Friday (8). ), in Crisium, in the south of Santa Catarina.
According to Crisiuma’s Dic (Criminal Investigation Department), the suspect confessed to the crime and attacked the victim with a pickaxe handle.
At a press conference held on Friday afternoon (8), the Civil Police also said that there were no eyewitnesses to the crime, but the victim’s daughter was at home and working in her home office.
The young woman was missing her mother when she realized that Janet had not yet finished making coffee. She walked out into the backyard and saw a figure looking into the house who hid. The frightened daughter returned to the house and locked everything. He then called family members, who found the victim’s body lying in a barn.
During the investigation, police analyzed CCTV footage from the street and identified the gardener’s car at the scene. Moreover, they noticed that it took him a long time to get home.
Arriving home, the suspect asked his family to wash all of his work clothes, which intrigued investigators because the weather in the region was unstable and rainy. The wife said that she found her partner’s nervousness strange. The clothes were sent to the Scientific Police, as were the weapons used in the attack.
Gardener confessed to the crime
When questioned by Dick, the gardener admitted to attacking the victim twice with a pickaxe handle, but this version was rejected by investigators because Janet had several head injuries.
According to the man, he attacked her because the elderly woman was rude to him and took a knife to threaten him. The police also reject this version, since no sharp objects were found at the scene.
The gardener had a history of violence and acted impulsively, in addition to property crimes, firearms possession and threats. The investigation has ten days to complete and should result in him being charged with qualifying murder without cause and using a resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself.
