Last Wednesday (6), the long-awaited proposal for Beira Mar de Barreiros was presented to more than 100 businessmen and authorities at the headquarters of AEMFLO (Business Association of the Metropolitan Region of Florianópolis) and CDL (Chamber of Store Managers of San Francisco). The project, which has been awaiting implementation for almost 40 years, aims to significantly improve mobility and accessibility in Greater Florianópolis.

AEMFLO and CDL Sao Jose President Gilberto Rech praised the project: “The mobility of our region depends on this work. This work will improve accessibility throughout the region and improve the road system.”

The President of the Advisory Council, João Moacir Will, echoed: “We need such important works to support the growth of our region. More than 1.5 million people come here every day.”

The meeting was attended by the mayor of San Jose, Orvino Coelho de Avila, municipal secretaries and council members, as well as businessmen.

The recently approved international loan permit project with Fonplata by the City Council was sanctioned by the mayor, increasing the construction volume estimated at R$509 million.

Improvements to the Barreiros promenade

The future Avenida Beira Mar de Barreiros, planned to be 8,250 kilometers long, will connect Beira Mar Continental de Florianópolis with BR-101.

The project includes traffic lanes, bike paths, rest areas and parking in an effort to improve urban mobility and stimulate economic development.

Prosul engineer Robson Sebastiani explained the details of the expected traffic: “The study predicts that in 2026 the number of cars will exceed 32.2 thousand per day. By 2035, there will be more than 37,200 vehicles in the region. The work already anticipates this growth.”

Prosul highlighted issues such as the soil problem in the region, emphasizing the need for adequate treatment to avoid disruptions.

Environmental engineer Kalinka Laitano spoke about the complexities of environmental licensing, including dredging and complex studies of meteorological conditions, geology, fauna and flora.

Construction of Beira Mar de Barreiros is expected to be completed in four years, by March 2024. This is an important element of the development and well-being of the region.
