A 49-year-old man suspected of posing as a police officer to steal firearms was the subject of a search and arrest warrant in Gaspar, Vale do Itajaí province.
The action was carried out by the civilian police through the DRFR (anti-theft and robbery police station) Blumenau. The suspect’s mobile phone and luxury car were seized during a search of a house in the Coloninha area on Wednesday afternoon (6).
Suspect pretended to be a police officer to steal guns
According to the police, the incident took place on November 14 this year when the victim, a 65-year-old man, was duped by two men.
One of the people involved, who identified himself as a police officer, called the victim and ordered her to hand over a firearm that was kept in a safe at the home.
Out of fear, the man gave up and handed over the safe containing the firearm to the second suspect who came to his home. All actions of the criminals were recorded by a video surveillance camera.
In the images, the suspect and victim can be seen placing the safe in the trunk of the BMW.
Fraud
According to the Civil Police, it has been established that the victim actually fell for the scam, contrary to what he said in the police report when he claimed that he was robbed.
During the investigation, the identity of one of the suspects was established. The corporation was a search and seizure of the home, which was approved by the 2nd Criminal Court of Blumenau County.
This Wednesday (6), a warrant was executed and the suspect’s cell phone and vehicle used in the crime were seized to continue the investigation to recover the firearm and stolen safe and identify the second person involved.
The defendant will be charged with embezzlement of funds against the elderly. The period for completing the investigation is 30 days, which may be extended.
