Teams from the DTCA (Traffic and Environmental Crimes Police Station) in Blumenau, in Vale do Itajaí, have identified the man accused of abandoning dogs on the street in the central district of Velha. Thanks to animal activists, the animals were saved and survived.
According to civilian police, the matter came to light after a complaint was filed with Semmas (Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development) at the end of October. A man who lives nearby called authorities after he saw abandoned puppies in the parking lot of the Credit Union on Jose Reiter Street.
The person who filed the complaint said that he even fed the puppies for a while because they were crying from hunger and their mother was still afraid to breastfeed.
Through investigations that included surveillance cameras from neighbors and witness statements, the suspect who abandoned the animals was identified.
A surveillance camera captured the moment the suspect abandoned the dogs. Look!
The images show he used the car to drive to the parking lot and make the throw. He was called to give evidence during a police investigation into the case by the specialized civilian police unit handling the case.
During interrogation, he admitted that he abandoned the animals because he was moving and the animals were “not very well received” in the new house where he would live.
According to Law 9605/98 regarding cruelty to animals, upon conviction, the punishment for the crime ranges from 2 to 5 years of imprisonment, a fine and a ban on detention. The case remains under investigation.
