The construction of the future Beira Mar de Barreiros Avenue has been approved by the City Council of São José. The project is estimated to cost R$244 million for 3,750 kilometers and is currently awaiting approval from Mayor Orvino Coelho de Avila.
Ordinary Bill No. 143/2023 was approved on Wednesday (22) with a second vote. The proposal allows for an international loan from Fonplata (Financial Fund for the Development of the Prata Basin).
Once approved, the funding will be reviewed by the Senate Economic Affairs Committee. Completion is expected within 45 days.
The mayor of San Jose shows optimism
Mayor Orvino expressed optimism and emphasized the importance of the city. “We started the project in 2021, went step by step and are now moving forward. But there is still a lot to be done, and I hope it will not take much time,” he said.
Vice Mayor Michel Schlemper also noted the approval. He emphasized that if environmental licenses are available, the tender will be published. Work will begin as soon as possible.
Avenida Beira Mar de Barreiros will allow greater integration of Greater Florianópolis. The program also aims to improve urban mobility and promote economic and social development of the region.
The project provides for a recreation area with an area of 28 thousand m² and various facilities. In addition to multifunctional spaces and an acoustic envelope, there will be a skate park and a gym for seniors.
The project includes sustainable measures such as the use of bicycles, public transport and energy efficiency with LED lamps. It also addresses environmental issues such as rainwater drainage and biodiversity conservation programs.
Beira Mar de Barreiros will open opportunities for local entrepreneurs. Industries such as crafts, culinary, information technology and services will develop.
Increased foot traffic promises to stimulate the growth of micro and small businesses. Through this, the mayor’s office hopes to create more jobs and income for the region’s low-income population.
