The civil police of Joinville, in the north of Santa Catarina, have charged a man who ran over a dog with his car in the Petrópolis area on November 8th. The animal was injured and was rescued by local residents.
According to the Civil Police, the man stated that he realized that he had stepped on the animal, but did not help him as he had to do the next thing. The dog was cared for by the local community.
After the hit-and-run, the dog ran away and was found cornered, defecating and urinating in a room near the hit-and-run. The moment when the car passed the dog was caught on CCTV. Check:

According to the Civil Police, the man committed a crime of cruelty because he knew about the incident and did not help the animal.
The sanctions law increased the penalty for this offense to 2–5 years. The police procedure was transferred this Wednesday (22) to the judicial system.
