In the final stage of the transitional lease process, the port of Itajaí received a new dredger early this Friday (17) morning, which is already in operation to maintain the depth of the access channel. Technical details of the equipment have not yet been disclosed.
Dredging is one of the most important port processes as it removes sediment at access points and maintains contracted depths. Itajai even had problems with the procedure earlier in the week.
According to the head of the complex, Fabio da Veiga, the new dredger will operate for at least 45 days to reach the contract level.
Porto will also begin work to accommodate larger ships.
In addition to the arrival of the equipment, Superintendent Fabio da Veiga confirmed another fundamental operation for the port of Itajaí: the execution of the second phase of the evolutionary basin. This work will allow the municipality to accommodate vessels of 400 meters in length.
Ship and container operations, suspended for almost a year, are expected to resume in early 2024. The complex is currently waiting for ANTAQ (National Water Transport Agency) to determine the winning company in the transition leasing process.
Teconnave, a member of the TiL (Terminal Investment Limited) group, has accepted its proposal and is the favorite to win the tender. The process is currently in the appeal phase, which is reviewing changes requested by disqualified companies.
