The Union budget for 2024 only provides 400 million reais for infrastructure work in Santa Catarina. If parliamentary amendments are not passed to strengthen these meager allocations, the state will suffer serious consequences.
This is evidenced by a Fiesc study presented today at a meeting of the Chamber of Transport and Logistics.
The state’s interstate highway situation has not improved and is likely to worsen unless resources are allocated for next year.
The study presented today by engineer Riccardo Saporiti shows the situation on sections BR 470, 153, 282, 158 and 163. The analysis covers 630 kilometers and was carried out in August and September, that is, in anticipation of the rainy period – when the situation could have worsened.
Faced with the prospect that the 2024 federal budget will allocate only R$400 million for infrastructure, Education President Mario César de Aguiar warned of the importance of parliamentary amendments to guarantee the continuity of projects.
A note from Fiesc gives more details:
“We call on the Federal Bar to provide more resources through individual and collective amendments. This is fundamental because the amounts provided in the Federal Government Annual Budget Act for Fiscal Year 2024 are insufficient,” Aguiar states.
In 2023, the federal budget amounted to 1.3 billion reais, which guaranteed the smooth implementation of important road works, adds the FIESC president. “But we need to continue at the same pace. We therefore ask the people of Santa Catarina to mobilize parliamentarians from their regions. This will benefit the safety of users, given the high number of accidents, as well as all sectors of the Santa Catarina economy that are threatened by the instability of our logistics,” he states.
When studying the BR, factors such as conservation (eliminating holes and improving the quality of preservation) and restoration (adapting the road surface to extend its service life) were assessed. Another point analyzed was the CREMA (federal contract, restoration and maintenance) program. In this regard, engineering designs, as well as functional and structural rehabilitation of the pavement, were worked out in contracts with a period of three to five years.”
