The fire that engulfed a fuel distributor in Chapeco, western Santa Catarina, lasted more than 48 hours. This Wednesday (15), the Military Fire Service said that “the situation is under control” and that they have begun using sand and foam to extinguish the flames.
It is not yet possible to say how much sand will be used at the site. The material is trucked in and delivered to the fire using a backhoe.
In total, the enterprise has 13 fuel tanks, four of which are engulfed in flames. In total there are about two million liters of diesel fuel, gasoline and alcohol. In one of the videos published by rescuers, a fuel leak can be seen covered with sand. See below:
