The Civil Police of Santa Catarina launched Operation Salvação do Rebanho last Tuesday (14), which investigates the cruelty to livestock in Porto Belo. Search and arrest warrants were executed, resulting in the seizure of animals and the confiscation of weapons.
In addition to the corporation, FAMAP (Municipal Environmental Fund of Porto Belo), CIDASC (Integrated Agricultural Development Company) and GOR (Group of Rescue Operations) took part in the project. Staff from the planning and works departments were also called.
The anti-abuse operation began after a complaint was received at the institutions
The operation began after FAMAP and the Russian Government received a complaint about poor treatment of livestock, malnutrition, injuries and ticks. As a result, a police investigation was launched to establish the facts.
The civilian police discovered that this situation had been repeating itself for many years and therefore issued search and seizure warrants. The suspect’s property in Porto Belo will be fenced and must remain the responsibility of conservation agencies for the treatment of abused animals.
Following an investigation, two firearms were recovered from the scene and other residences of the suspect, one in Tijucas. In addition, about thirteen bones of dead animals were found, abandoned in the pasture.
