Three months after the accident involving two fishermen in Florianopolis, the victim, Orlando Lemos, 78, remains missing. The Santa Catarina Port Authority is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on August 14.
The investigation launched by the port authority ends in three months on the 16th and should be completed by the end of November, the agency said this Monday (13).
“By following the procedures prescribed by the Maritime Authority Standard for the Investigation of a Navigation Accident, upon completion of the investigation, the investigation will be transferred to the Maritime Court, the body responsible for conducting the trial,” the captain emphasized.
According to family members in Orlando, the retired merchant went out to fish for anchovies on the high seas, which was already a common practice. Lemos was accompanied by 28-year-old Vilhen Paredes on the boat VITORIA XVIII. Both went fishing in the north of Santa Catarina Island and did not return.
The young man’s body was discovered five days later during a search by divers. The fisherman was on a rock between the beaches of Ingleses and Santinho. The identity of Villen Paredes was subsequently confirmed by civilian police.
