The flood that hit Santa Catarina in October this year caused extensive damage. However, a comical and at the same time tragic scene went viral online, depicting a car with a “bag” floating in the courtyard of a house.
The scene was filmed by Isauro Bart, a resident of Presidente Getúlio in Alto Vale do Itajaí. A resident told ND+ Portal that this episode occurred in early October, when the city was overwhelmed by the flood of the Krauel and Indios rivers.
The car bag scene aroused the curiosity of internet users and garnered millions of views from various TikTok and Instagram profiles who shared the scene without knowing who was responsible for it.

The video that went viral was simply sent to his children and colleagues, but it spread almost instantly. The 2013 Citroën C3 Air Cross that Isauro dreamed of has a long history. For years he was literally stuck in the garage due to some problem.
Isauro claims he decided to bagged the car because it had already been damaged in another flood in 2020. At the time, the resident was having trouble obtaining compensation from the vehicle protection association through which the vehicle was secured. or repair your car after it took on water during the next flood.
Having stopped since then, one of the conditions for solving the problem was that the vehicle should not leave his yard. “When I went out onto the balcony to look at the height of the water, and the car was not in the garage, I got scared. He was floating in the middle of the yard,” he recalls.
During the sudden flooding of the rivers that flow through Presidente Getulio, many neighbors pulled their cars out of their garages and parked them on flood-free streets. Similar scenes are common even in the Itajaí Valley during floods.
However, mindful of the imbroglio of the situation, Isauro did not want to have the car towed and came up with the idea of bagging it to try and preserve it. He simply didn’t expect his efforts to be in vain.
There was a hole in the bag the car owner was using
The “bag” in which Isauro kept the car was purchased from a farm. This is a tubular container that farmers use to make silage on the farm.
When used correctly, the coating can withstand weather conditions for over a year, both sun and rain. The car owner even lifted the car using a hydraulic jack on all four wheels. However, even though the bag was packed, it was carried away by the current and the bag eventually burst.
“Between one flood, people threw pallets, damaged cabinets, everything into the street to be taken to the city hall dumpster. When the next flood happened, everything came into the yard here and broke through the tarp,” he says.
After his car was carried to the back of his house, the resident took a risk and walked into the flow of water to tie the car to a tree to prevent it from falling into the nearby river. His wife filmed him during this mission, which at least helped prevent the loss of the car.
Isauro is a seamstress and says he has been working on purchasing a car for years. His dream was to be able to walk with him again, but unfortunately, the last straw was the scene when he saw himself being carried away by another flood.
He says he intends to move to higher ground after the new floods he suffered. While counting the losses, which, fortunately, turned out to be only materials, the tailor hopes to return to work and buy another car.
“I fought to buy this car, it was my and my wife’s dream, and suddenly it went down the drain. (…) I can’t even look at him anymore,” he concludes.
