Elements worked out by the Ministry of Justice and the civilian police indicate that the knife with which the homeless man was killed in front of a supermarket in the Victor Conder area of Blumenau belonged to the criminal himself. Giovane Ferreira da Silva de Oliveira, 29, was killed on Friday (3).
A man arrested red-handed on charges of murdering a homeless man was ordered into preventive detention on Saturday by a court (4).
The offender used in the crime was on his person, according to the custody hearing report. “The bladed weapon used to commit the crime will be in the possession of the aggressor himself,” reads an excerpt from the decision of Judge Eduardo Passold Reis. According to the portal Alexandra Jose.
In addition, the Court takes into account certain factors that exclude the theory of self-defense, as indicated by the lawyer representing the person who committed the crime. The defense claims the man acted to protect his daughter.
“It cannot be said that the defendants acted in self-defense, at least at this early stage of the investigation, since there is no concrete element yet that could support such a version.”
Security camera footage also showed the attacker chasing the victim with a knife in his hand. The man then punched the homeless man, even after he fell to the ground. “The crime was committed in a violent and cruel manner, the victim was stabbed at least fifteen times,” the judge added.
Homeless Man Allegedly Offered Powder Before He Was Killed
The motive for the crime was the sale of pasok. According to eyewitnesses, the criminal was walking to the supermarket with his daughter.
The victim came up and offered the child some pasok. At that moment, an argument began between the man and the victim, after which the author entered the establishment along with his daughter.
At the exit from the supermarket, a new disagreement arose between the criminal and the victim. It was at this point, according to the military police report, that the man, carrying a knife, stabbed the homeless man several times, who died on the spot. The crime was committed in front of the criminal’s minor daughter.
The investigation is ongoing by the Civil Police.
The social service stated that the homeless man had been accompanied since 2019.
In a statement, the Department of Social Development regretted the incident involving the death of a 29-year-old homeless man on Friday (3).
“The man in question has been under the care of the Secretariat since 2019 and received treatment from various social assistance services such as the Social Assistance Help Center (Kras) and subsequently the Social Approach.”
The note also confirms that Giovane received assistance from the POP Center (Specialized Referral Center for the Homeless) and the Blumenau municipal shelter and was referred to therapeutic communities, “despite the fact that he did not undergo any treatment in these institutions.”
“During this period, Semudes provided the man with a total of 119 services, the last service recorded on October 25 at the POP center,” the secretariat said in a statement.
