After an eight-month shutdown, work on the construction of a bridge over the Cachoeira River resumed in Joinville at the end of October. The work was interrupted in February this year due to problems with the company hired to do the work in the city of Northern Santa Catarina.
The bridge under construction will connect Dutor Placido Olimpio de Oliveira and Obe streets in the Bucarein and Boa Vista areas. According to Joinville City Hall, work is scheduled to be completed in nine months, meaning it should be ready in the second half of 2024.
Bridge operation interrupted
The work was interrupted after the contract with the company responsible for the work was terminated. The decision was made after it was proven that the company had not fulfilled its contractual obligations.
New tender and resumption of work
A new tender was issued and now the consortium formed by Itaúba Incorporações e Construções Ltda and Empreiteira de Mão de Obra Adrimar Ltda will continue the construction of the bridge over the Cachoeira River. The contract value is R$10,650,000.
“This work is of paramount importance for the mobility of Joinville. It will be an important link between the southern zone and the Boa Vista region, as well as the eastern zone of Joinville. This work, together with other bridges and changes to the road system, will significantly improve the city’s mobility,” explains Seinfra chief executive Paulo Mendes Castro.
Once completed, the bridge will be 118 meters long and 13 meters wide. The structure will have two lanes for cars, each 3.5 meters wide. The traffic will be two-way. On both sides there will be common sidewalks for pedestrians and cyclists, each 3 meters wide.
An important difference is the navigation width, that is, the free space for ships to pass under the bridge, the width of which will be 16.15 meters and height – 6.6 meters.
