Images showing fishermen, firefighters and volunteers “trawl” in search of 14-year-old teenager Vitor, who disappeared this Sunday (29) at sea in Meia Praia in Itapema, on the northern coast of SA, have appeared on social networks .
The young man drowned around 4 p.m. while at sea with a friend, who was also swept away by the current but was rescued.
Vitor went underwater as the team approached and was still missing by the end of Monday afternoon (30).
The video, which has already collected more than 59 thousand views, shows the population pulling a trawl net at the edge of the sea. Rescuers and volunteers work as a task force of sorts, pulling out the net in hopes of finding the young man.
According to Lt. Goncalves, an officer with the 13th Military Fire Brigade, this strategy was used in conjunction with the fishermen themselves, who offered support.
“Before this, our divers combed the entire site,” says the lieutenant. He says searches continue this Monday.

Several people took to social media to express support and solidarity for the young man’s family and friends. “I can’t even describe what it must be like for a parent to be in this situation,” one comment read.
The search continues
Relatives said the victims were at sea in the area of 211th Street when they were dragged. The fire department’s Archangel-03 helicopter was called in to provide assistance, and the search using jet skis continues.
Around 8 a.m. this Monday, two divers began working on the site with a boat and jet ski, searching in more remote areas. The search will continue all day until the conditions for this disappear.
