This Monday, a motorcyclist (30) was killed in a traffic accident in Itapeme, in the Sertão do Trombudo area. A 24-year-old man collided with a truck on Isidoro Luis Crispin Street and died from his injuries.
Medical teams and military police were called to the scene, but the victim died instantly before receiving medical assistance. The truck driver was not injured.
The penalty for an accident resulting in unintentional death can be up to four years if found guilty.
The penalty for roadside manslaughter in Brazil is two to four years in prison, with a suspended license and a possible one-third increase if the offender fails to assist the victim.
However, everything depends on the verdict and proof of guilt. If the driver complies, it becomes a crime of lesser potential and carries a penalty of no more than two years without immediate imprisonment.
There is no detailed information yet about how the accident occurred and whether it was the result of illegal maneuvers on the highway. Military police are continuing to investigate the case and will release more details soon.
