The second gate of the dam at José Buato, in Alto Vale do Itajaí, remains closed due to a problem with a stuck cylinder. According to the Santa Catarina government, on Wednesday (25) a technical team visited the site and checked the situation.

The structure has two locks, one of which was opened on October 15, and the second caused technical difficulties and has remained closed since then.
The team had the support of Celesc, which has the team and equipment to test the gateway, according to State Secretary for Defense and Civil Defense Colonel Armando Schröder.
“There is a problem with a cylinder that is not currently accessible. The repair team went down to the gate location, but there is water there, so there is a need to remove the cylinder after drying and take it for service.”
According to the secretary, the cylinder should be removed as the river level is falling.
North Dam
According to Civil Defense data at 17:00 this Thursday (26), the reservoir capacity of the North Dam in José Buat was 38.68% of its capacity.
The dam’s capacity is 357 million m³, one gate is open, the other is closed.
Both were closed on October 8 to help cope with the effects of flooding in the cities of Alto and Vale do Itajaí.
Two weeks ago, on the night of the 13th, the Northern Dam leaked for the first time in history. Opening the floodgates was widely discussed as the action would mainly raise river levels in Blumenau, which was also affected by floods.
South and West dams
Currently, the Sool Dam in Ituporang is at 50.50% of its capacity, with four gates still open and one closed, according to Civil Defense.
The Oeste Dam in Taio is at 42.28% capacity, with all seven gates open and none closed.
