Literally bananas, a brawl that took place in Santa Rosa do Sul in southern SC in 2015 continues to evolve. Three men accused of attacking a banana driver will appear before the People’s Jury. Everything is connected with a dispute over the territory of banana sales.
The third criminal division of the Santa Catarina court has confirmed that it will face a public trial of three men accused of ambushing and shooting a banana driver. The accused also work in the same banana farming sector.
Apparently, the attempted murder occurred because the victim left the company and went to work for a competitor. One night in 2015, while he was transporting bananas, he came across a car stopped on the road around 11:45 p.m. A man next to the car asked for help. The driver slowed down and claims that he heard someone order: “Shoot!, Shoot!…”.
The second man then picked up a gun and fired several shots. The driver was wounded in his left arm and face, but he still ran away to ask for help.
The feud between the two companies was known to those involved and the police as they were previously rivals, partners and the victim worked for the owner of a rival production company. Their relationship ended badly as the victim sued her former boss for not paying her labor rights. At the end of the court agreement, the man demanded that the victim stop working for a competing company. The order was not carried out.
Despite the police investigation, the accused deny any involvement or participation in the crime. The defendant will face a jury trial for attempted murder, which is based on ambush and resources that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself.
