Last week, civilian police completed their investigation into the case of a baby who was allegedly trampled after being born in September in Isara, southern Santa Catarina. A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the actions of the mother, who claimed she did not know she was pregnant.
“It was possible to be convinced that in fact she [mãe] trampled a defenseless child. The report of the Legal Medical Institute proves that the death of the newborn was caused by traumatic brain injury,” said the delegate in charge of the case, Rafael Iasco.
“The whole head was torn off”
“Very strong,” is how the professional defined the testimony collected during the investigations. “The child’s head was torn off, he looked like a sponge from which so much blood flowed. The mother never even worried about the newborn. She wanted to leave and leave the child there,” Jasko emphasizes.
One of the tests requested by civilian police aims to determine whether the mother was in the postpartum period, which is the period during which a woman’s body and psychological state recover after the birth of a child. However, the procedure was not carried out until the investigation was completed.
“For us this is a qualified murder. Now, if her postpartum status is recorded by a doctor, this is normal. The police appealed, but so far the Legal Medical Institute has not sent us a response, and I did not wait and already closed the investigation,” notes Yasko.
Remember the incident with the trampled child?
According to the San Donato Hospital, in Isara, the mother and newborn were hospitalized early on Saturday morning, September 9. The baby is in serious condition, with head and body injuries, as well as hypothermia, covered in dirt and grass, despite the efforts of the medical team, he did not survive.
Delegate Marcio Campos Neves took the first steps on duty. Civilian police and forensics were at the couple’s home and were able to verify that the neighbor who recorded the attack had a surveillance camera.
“You could see a surveillance camera filming what was happening. A woman gives birth next to the wall of a house and next to a car. Then she steps on the baby,” Neves told ND+ that Sunday.
The sentence for qualified murder can range from 12 to 30 years, depending on the qualifications. After the investigation was completed, the case was transferred to the court.
About the postpartum condition
The postpartum condition is a period characterized by a number of physical and psychological changes in a woman after the birth of a child. In addition to postpartum depression, there are large hormonal variations in some cases.
The ND+ report attempted to find protection for the mother and father of the deceased newborn, but was unsuccessful. The space remains open.
