Edo Piazza, 64, has been confronted for decades with one of the main problems facing the residents of Rua Alferes in the Trinta Reis district: at least three flood points block one of the most important roads in the city of Nova Trento. The road also provides access to neighborhoods within the municipality and is important for the flow of agricultural and forestry products, as well as connecting the center with the most remote points of the region.
Every time it rains heavily, the same story happens: flooding and headaches for residents. “In some areas there was rainwater drainage, in others there was none or it was ineffective. We went through a lot of difficulties,” says Edo Piazza. But this year the story took a new direction.
The mayor of the current administration, Thiago Dalsasso, found in the Far South Regional Development Bank a solution that previous leaders could not put into practice – laying and drainage work to solve the problems of those who live in the city or need high-quality interconnection. between municipalities for the transport of commercial products.
As part of the credit line program for municipalities, Rua Alferes is due to receive 3.7 km of asphalt, 5 km of sewer pipes and a pedestrian path in the coming months. “BRDE opened doors for us and helped us a lot. Both technical specialists and management. We got in touch and it was decided for us,” recalls the head of the municipal administration.
In this work, BRDE and the mayor’s office jointly participate in the disbursement of resources. The total cost of the project is R$ 11,976,398.91. Of this total amount, R$10,083,000 is financed by the Far South Regional Development Bank. The remaining amount is provided by the administration of Nova Trento: R$ 1,893,398.91.
The company responsible for its implementation was selected through a tender. The work includes paving, laying a water supply network, draining rainwater, laying sidewalks and road signs. The winner was Qualidade Mineração LTDA.
BRDE has 33,000 active clients and is present in 1,087 municipalities in southern Brazil. Municipalities in the southern region have several opportunities to implement programs promoted by the bank. One of them is “My Municipality”. The initiative includes extensions focusing on urban mobility, sanitation or public lighting, sustainable cities and governance. The category for cities requires some documents that are requested during registration, such as:
- Registration forms
- Legislation allowing the conclusion of financial contracts
- TCE certificate authorizing new credit transactions
- Technical and legal opinion.
Success in project implementation is also guaranteed by the BRDE strategy. “Sustainable development is one of the pillars of promoting the southern region and bringing projects together,” says bank president João Paulo Kleinübing.
According to Director of Credit Monitoring and Recovery Mauro Mariani: “Expanding sustainable and inclusive development is one of the bank’s goals. BRDE caters to the needs of entrepreneurs from SC, PR and RS and has a total of about 40 thousand active clients. It is present in more than 1,100 municipalities, covering about 96% of the Southern region, but we want to go further, getting closer and closer,” he emphasizes.
Access to credit lines is possible through partner cooperatives that are located in different regions of the state of Santa Catarina, creating capillarity and access to the citizens of Santa Catarina. “We are not an ordinary financial institution. We do not work with current accounts or income from assets. Our business is financing solutions,” emphasizes Development Manager Olavo Gavioli.
According to the development manager, services are an important factor in the economy and quality of life in Santa Catarina. He explains that the regional bank works exclusively with financial projects, operating in three states of southern Brazil, in addition to Mato Grosso do Sul.
The technical efficiency of the bank’s team also strengthens its responsibility to clients. “Nova Trento is one of our cases. We usually invest in our relations with municipalities through advertising and lectures, always seeking to increase cooperation with the public sector,” explains Deputy Manager Julio Oliveira.
Approval, which is also present in the testimony of residents. Seu Edo guarantees: “When it was said that the financing was about to be implemented, few believed it. But now that the work is taking shape, everyone is very happy and satisfied.” Expected delivery to the community is January 29, 2024.
