However, an intensive search resulted in his capture. On September 13, he was transferred to a maximum security prison.
Before his escape, Danilo Cavalcante was in the custody of Pennsylvania authorities.
Following the arrest, the case was transferred to the Department of Corrections.
Cavalcante was later transferred to the Phoenix State Correctional Institution, located in Montgomery County, neighboring Chester.
The prison houses nearly 4,000 inmates and employs about 1,200 full-time security staff, according to the Pennsylvania government.
In addition to housing inmates, the facility offers basic adult education services, treatment programs for sex offenders, drug users, violence prevention and more.
The east wing of the prison is reserved for inmates who have violated parole or are new arrivals, as in the case of Cavalcante.
The cells usually accommodate two prisoners in bunk beds measuring approximately 7.5 square meters.
Each cell is equipped with a desk, closet, sink, toilet and intercom for communication with staff in case of emergency.
Authorities said Danilo Cavalcante’s life sentence will not be changed despite his additional crimes during his escape, including robberies and a shootout with a local man.
Cavalcante was wanted after he escaped from the Chester County Jail in Pennsylvania on August 31.
Brazilian on the run
The Brazilian’s escape occurred shortly after he was found guilty of the death of Deborah Evangelista. The crime occurred on April 18, 2021, when Deborah tried to break off her relationship with Danilo, but he refused and continued to threaten her. Deborah was stabbed to death in front of her two children.
During the days when Danilo was on the run, Danilo changed his appearance, hid in the forest, stole a van and a rifle, and entered into an armed confrontation with a local resident.
The escape led to the closure of tourist attractions and instructions to residents to report any suspicions.
After an extensive operation involving more than 500 agents, Danilo was caught on Wednesday morning (13) while trying to escape with a rifle.
The CBS News portal reported that during the operation he was detained by a sniffer dog, and Danilo was grabbed by a police officer.
After a brief injury from a dog bite, he was taken into custody and will be transferred to a correctional facility.
