The San Donato Hospital, which treated the newborn with head and body injuries as well as hypothermia, commented on the case this Monday (11). The Ichar facility said in a statement that it encountered an emergency in the early hours of September 9 when it received a mother and child who were in critical condition.
“San Donato Hospital’s priority has always been to ensure the well-being and safety of our patients. We immediately took measures to care for the newborn and his mother, observing safety protocols and fully cooperating with the police,” said Marcelo Viñas, technical director of the facility.
The person in charge also reported that the newborn was immediately treated at the San Donato Hospital. “Despite resuscitation, unfortunately, the baby died. The Legal Medical Institute (IML) was called in to conduct the necessary investigations. The mother of the child received all the necessary care and, prior to her discharge, the medical team consulted with the police present, who authorized her release, emphasizing that the investigation into the matter was ongoing,” an excerpt from the statement emphasizes.
The camera caught the moment
In an ND+ report, deputy Marcio Campos Neves, who was on duty at the time of the incident, said that during the investigation, a surveillance camera was found in a neighbor’s home at the family’s home. It recorded images of the moment of birth and subsequent attacks on the newborn.
“You could see a surveillance camera filming what was happening. A woman gives birth next to the wall of a house and next to a car. Then he steps on the child,” the policeman explained. It is suspected that the mother was in a postpartum state. “I want to believe and I think it will be confirmed,” Neves also commented.
Investigations are ongoing at the Isar police station.
