A 68-year-old man, who has not been identified, may have killed his 31-year-old wife, also unidentified, around 13:00 this Monday (4) in the Bela Vista area of Lages, located in the Serra de Santa Ekaterina.
The reason has not yet been named, but it is known that the victim was detained by the police for theft, escaping from prison and disturbing the peace.
When the military police arrived at the scene, activating the neighbors, they already found the woman dead and lying on the couch at home. Having committed a crime, the man committed suicide. The civilian police are investigating the underlying causes of the crime.
SC registers a large number of feminicides in the first semester, and SSP investigates the identities of perpetrators
Santa Catarina repeated the feminicide record in the first half of 2023. According to the SSP (Minister of Public Security), up to June of this year, at least 30 women were killed on the basis of gender or in the context of domestic violence.
During the same period last year, 29 women were killed. Public Security Minister Paulo Cesar Ramos de Oliveira says the agency is reopening cases of violence against women, especially from last year, to identify those responsible.
“From the easiest thing to the hardest thing to get everyone out of the box. Sometimes the police station is involved in drug trafficking, theft, organized crime, but we have already come to a consensus, because this is an open wound in our society. Deputy General Ulisses Gabriel will be in charge of all police stations in the state to ensure cases are reopened and investigated,” he explains.
Among the data, Santa Catarina reported in April that it did not have enough police personnel and funds to keep women’s police stations open for 24 hours, a requirement required by federal government law.
According to the Observatorio da Violência Contra a Mulher, there are 32 DPCAMIs (delegations for the protection of children, adolescents, women and the elderly) active in Santa Catarina. This is equivalent to 10% of the police stations in the state.
