This Thursday morning (31), an operation was carried out to eliminate a criminal organization aimed at money laundering and financing drug trafficking in the cities in the south of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The operation, called “Ferro Novo”, was carried out by civilian police through the Isara police station with the support of the intelligence center Crisium.
The target of the operation were the cities of Santa Catarina: Crisium, Forquillinha, Isara, Cocal do Sul, Tubaran and Itapema. In Rio Grande do Sul, these were the cities of Pelotas, Xarqueadas, Shangri-La and Rio Grande.
Luxury cars, asset lockups, real estate and bank accounts
Eight people were temporarily arrested during the operation. Luxury cars were also confiscated and property, real estate and bank accounts were frozen.
According to information provided by the head of the investigation, Rafael Iasco, the criminal organization operated for about four years and transferred about half a billion reais. The group used companies and “oranges” to allocate capital obtained illegally through criminal activities into the national financial system.
Commencement of operation in 2020
According to the Civil Police, the action is a continuation of the operation that took place in 2020 and is characterized by the largest seizure of drugs in the south of Santa Catarina. At that time, Isara civilian police seized about 3.5 tons of marijuana.
The operation was supported by all police stations in the region of Crisium, Lab/Sul/Deutsch, SaerSul, Decor Tubaran, Deutsch, Itapema Police Station, DIC Tubarao and Laguna, and the Santa Catarina Science Police; In RS, the operation was supported by DRACO/Rio Grande, DRACO/Pelotas and the Xarqueadas police station.
