After a false hijacking warning that resulted in the cancellation of flights at Congonhas Airport, the pilot of the plane, who was supposed to issue a warning with a code denoting “illegal hijacking”, released a video showing the interior of the aircraft. The pilot claims that the cockpit was normal and that the “transponder”, the device that provides communication between the aircraft and the control tower, has not been moved since the start of the flight in Recife, Pennsylvania.
According to Portal R7, the images were taken at 21:43 by the commander himself after the plane landed on the Congonhas secondary airstrip.
The aircraft’s alarm signaled an “illegal takeover” and was used in the event of a threat or an attempted entry into the flight deck. “Subsequently, the Federal Police initiated security procedures and determined that this was not a case of illegal seizure. That is, only the code was sent incorrectly, ”the Infraero reported.
Because of this, one of the main airports in the country was closed for an hour, from 20:49 to 21:49 on Friday (25). According to the Infraero group, 22 flights were affected, 13 of which were cancelled.
Affected flights in Congonhas
On this Saturday morning (26), flights were still canceled or delayed in Congonhas due to false alarms. In a note, Gol said 12 flights had to be canceled due to “network adequacy” needed after the incident.
Although Infraero’s flight panel this morning indicated some flight cancellations by Latam, the company says that “its flights are operating as normal at Congonhas Airport following the temporary suspension of all operations at the airport on Friday evening.”
Azul did not respond if it had flights canceled or delayed this Saturday due to the incident. The company only confirmed suspicions of unlawful interference and stated that the procedures in this situation “were followed by the company, all institutions and authorities involved.”
Azul also stated that after returning to normal, the plane continued to move towards its destination. “Clients and crew disembarked in complete safety.”
